Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the website at stepstokmconverter.com and the calculators and pages it hosts (together, the “Service”). It describes what information is involved when you use the Service and how it is handled.

It does not apply to third-party websites that we link to. When you follow a link to another site, that site’s own privacy policy governs your visit.

We have intentionally minimised the data involved in the Service. There are three categories:

If you fill in our contact form, we receive what you type — typically your name, email address, and message. We use it solely to read and reply to you. We do not use it for marketing and do not add you to any list.

The converter saves your preferences and recent results in your browser’s local storage. This data stays on your device, is never transmitted to our servers, and you can erase it at any time by clearing your browser data. The items we store are:

We use Google Analytics to understand use of the Service and Google AdSense to display, measure, and protect advertising. Depending on your location, choices, and Google’s settings, these services may process information such as your IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, ad interactions, approximate location, consent signals, and cookie or similar identifiers. See Analytics and Advertising. Separately, our hosting provider records standard server logs — such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested — for security and availability.

We use the limited information above only to:

• Respond to questions, feedback, or bug reports you send us;
• Operate, secure, and maintain the website (for example, preventing abuse and diagnosing errors);
• Understand how visitors use the Service so we can improve it;
• Display and measure advertising that helps keep the Service free;
• Remember your preferences on your device for a smoother experience.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects. Google and participating advertising vendors may personalize ads where permitted and where the required choice or consent has been provided; we do not receive a directly identifying advertising profile from them.

Taking steps at your request

When you contact us, we process your message to respond to your enquiry.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Service is used. Google tags may load to establish consent state and send permitted measurements; whether analytics cookies or identifiers may be stored and how the resulting data may be used depends on your region, consent choice, browser settings, and our Google configuration.

• We use reports to understand matters such as page usage, devices, and feature interactions;
• The Google consent message can communicate analytics-storage choices to Google where it is displayed and configured to do so;
• When consent is denied, Google tags may still send limited, cookieless signals where legally permitted, but they do not use denied analytics storage;
• We do not send your name, email, or any direct identifier to analytics.

We use Google AdSense to display advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to this website or other websites when personalization is permitted.

Ads may instead be contextual, non-personalized, or limited when personalization is unavailable, disabled, or not consented to. Even non-personalized ads may use information such as the current page, coarse location, device information, and limited storage for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, fraud prevention, and security where permitted.

We keep third-party services to a minimum. Those we do rely on are:

A provider’s legal role may be processor, independent controller, or both, depending on the service and processing purpose. Google and the ad technology providers disclosed in the consent message process data under their own terms and privacy notices. We are not responsible for the independent privacy practices of a third-party website you reach by following a link from ours.

Some of our providers (such as Google) operate globally, so the limited data described above may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on the providers’ recognised transfer safeguards — such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and applicable data-transfer frameworks — to protect it.

On-device data

Preferences and history remain in your browser until you clear them or your browser removes them. We never receive this data, so we cannot retain it.

Contact messages

Kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any reasonable follow-up, then deleted.

Analytics data

Retained according to the analytics provider’s configured retention period, in aggregate form.

Advertising data

Retained by Google and participating vendors according to their purposes, settings, retention policies, and applicable law. Cookie duration varies by cookie and configuration.

Server logs

Kept by our host for a short period for security and troubleshooting, then rotated out.

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data:

• Access — ask what personal data we hold about you;
• Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data;
• Erasure — ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”);
• Restriction & objection — ask us to limit or stop certain processing;
• Portability — receive your data in a portable format;
• Withdraw consent or opt out — reopen Google’s “Privacy and cookie settings” when available, use Google Ads Settings, or contact us for help locating the relevant control.

EU/EEA and UK residents also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority. Residents of California and other covered U.S. states may have rights to opt out of targeted advertising or processing treated as a “sale” or “sharing” under local law. We do not sell personal information for money. Use the regional privacy message or privacy control presented on the site, or contact us, to exercise an applicable opt-out right. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

We serve the entire site over encrypted HTTPS and apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we handle. The strongest protection, though, is structural: because the tool runs on your device and we collect so little, there is very little sensitive data to protect. No method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, to reflect new features or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and we will highlight material changes where appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
